Any tooth with a large filling, root canal or fracture is a tooth in danger of breaking, or falling out altogether. With the help of a crown restoration - a protective covering, made of quality materials and designed to improve the tooth's function and appearance - a damaged tooth can easily be saved.
CEREC® (CEramic REConstruction) technology plays an important role in our practice. This remarkable innovation in chairside dentistry gives us the tools to design, create, and place crowns, inlays and onlays in a single visit.
The CEREC® Difference. The traditional approach to a crown or inlay/onlay often required a return appointment after the patient waited (with a temporary restoration in the tooth) for about two weeks while the restoration was manufactured in a separate lab. CEREC® CAD/CAM technology eliminates the wait!
How does CEREC® work? CEREC® employs a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the doctor uses CAD (computer-aided design) software to design the restoration. Then CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) takes over and automatically mills the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the new restoration is bonded in place. The whole process takes about one hour, and there are no annoying temporaries or second visit required!
With two decades of clinical research and more than 20 million restorations performed worldwide, CEREC® has proven to be a an effective, safe and convenient technology that we are delighted to offer to our patients.
It's important to address the loss of a single tooth as soon as possible. Tipping, drifting or over-erupting of neighboring teeth can happen as the result of a missing tooth; this can then lead to an uneven chewing surface, stress and strain on jaw joints, and hard-to-clean areas that become prone to periodontal (gum) disease.
Dental Implants are often the ideal solution for replacement of missing teeth. Our dentists place dental implants in the comfort of our office.
Your teeth are important! Studies have shown that first impressions, self-confidence and a person's character can all be correlated to their smile. Because each tooth acts in unison with neighboring and opposing teeth, it is important to replace a missing tooth and even more important to replace several missing teeth. This will prevent bone loss and the destructive shifting of surrounding natural teeth.
Dental Implants are fast becoming the best option for tooth replacement for many patients. A dental implant is a biocompatible post that is placed in the jawbone that will act much like the root of a tooth, by which a crown, bridge or even a denture can be supported. Patients enjoy high success rates in treatment and improved confidence in their appearance and dental function with dental implants.
Dental Implants are well suited to adults of all ages. Reasons for considering dental implants as the treatment of choice for missing teeth are:
- Proven longevity
- Ideal function
- Beautiful esthetics
- Preservation of existing jaw bone
- Restorations do not require alteration of adjacent teeth
- Excellent support for crowns, bridges, and dentures
- Great solution for slipping or unstable dentures (SynCone Overdenture System)
- Adaptable to individual patient circumstances
- Patient satisfaction
Depending on your situation, dental implants can be placed in one or two stages:
- One Stage: the implant is placed in the jawbone and immediately loaded with your new crown, bridge or denture.
- Two Stage: the implant is placed in the jawbone and allowed to heal for a prescribed period of time after which a crown, bridge or denture will be placed.

An effective restorative procedure requires healthy support from surrounding bone and gum tissues to be strong and functional, as well as to achieve optimal appearance. In some cases, our doctors may recommend procedures such as laser soft tissue contouring or crown lengthening to shape up the gums, or, a soft tissue or bone graft to provide additional support for your restoration.
Our practice is equipped with a Soft Tissue Laser for efficient and comfortable soft tissue management. Additionally, Dr. Durden has attended advanced training in soft tissue and bone grafting procedures.
The evolution of laser technology in dentistry has been universally accepted as an effective aid in oral soft tissue therapies. In our practice, Dr. Durden uses the dental laser in performing gum shaping and lift procedures for smile makeovers, dental implant placement and in the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease.
The use of the dental laser in dental surgery applications stops bleeding and seals lymphatic and nerve endings, thereby by-passing inflammation and the usual discomfort that is associated with inflammation during healing. The dental soft tissue laser is:
- Faster and more efficient than traditional surgical instrument methods
- Essentially painless
- More sterile (laser tip sterilizes itself in operation)
- Bloodless in most cases
- Less invasive
- Precise and conserves healthy tissues
- Less painful post-operatively
Common applications of the Dental Soft Tissue Laser include:
Soft Tissue Management: The laser is frequently used in dental hygiene recall appointments with great results. The ability of the laser to destroy harmful bacteria in periodontal pockets and rid the area of sick and infected tissue has enormous potential, not only as a means of arresting the progression of periodontal disease, but also as a fast and simple preventive procedure.
Surgery: As a surgical instrument, the laser makes extremely accurate, bloodless incisions. Most patients report a substantial reduction in post-operative pain. The virtual elimination of bleeding during surgery gives the dentist a clear view of the operating field and reduces the risk of infection for the patient. This enhances healing greatly, speeding up recovery for the patient.
Desensitizing Teeth: Another application of laser dentistry is the capability to desensitize teeth, which is both a simple and effective procedure.
Dental Implantology: Laser-assisted implant placement avoids the need for extensive surgery and thus minimizes post-operative discomfort.
Your comfort is always our #1 concern. If you believe you are a candidate for laser dentistry, Contact Us today for more information about this remarkable technology.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Dr. Durden has attended advanced training to provide Dental Conscious Sedation, a supportive medication protocol that induces an altered state of consciousness that minimizes pain and discomfort through the use of pain relievers and sedatives. You experience a state of very deep relaxation. You will still be able to speak and respond to the requests of Dr. Durden and our assistants. This type of sedation does require that you have a companion bring you to your appointment and drive you home. It is also best that they remain with you at home while you nap your sedation away.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
This is most commonly known to patients as "laughing gas". This type of sedation is used in tandem with the direct numbing of the area being treated. The benefits of Inhalation Conscious Sedation (Nitrous Oxide) include:
- Works well for mild to moderate anxiety.
- Has a rapid onset, you quickly feel relaxed.
- Can be used for any duration of appointment length, short to longer.
- Quick recovery at completion of your treatment.
- Very few side effects, if any.
- You can quickly return to your daily activities.
Additional restorative services include:
Fillings, Root Canals, Bridges, Complete & Partial Dentures, Inlays & Onlays.
